Hype scores second giant US deal

Sydney-based interactive agency Hype Marketing has secured another major US deal, worth an estimated $13.6m, with the American Basketball Association (ABA), which comes less than a month after it scored a multimillion-dollar contract with American radio giant, Citadel Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

After two years of negotiation, Hype's two-year renewable deal with the ABA will see the Australian agency provide exclusive mobile phone content to millions of basketball fans via the ABA web site, such as such as pictures of basketball players and team theme songs.

To date, the ABA site attracts more than 15 million unique visitors a month-a figure second only to the NBA (National Basketball Association).

Hype Marketing director Paul Stevens says over the next six months, the deal will expand to include all individual team sites as well.

This deal further strengthens the reputation of the Crows Nest-based agency in the US where they are a month into a year-long renewable contract with CBC, supplying mobile phone content, including games, ringtones and wallpapers to CBC's 20 million radio listeners.

Hype Marketing says it's already negotiating another seven major deals in the US, although Stevens says he's unable to disclose names.

"We've built a lot of credibility in the US market and we have had a multitude of other companies approaching us now that we haven't met yet," Stevens says.

Sydney Boutique Media Agency signs with billion dollar American giant

Hype Marketing, www.hypemarketing.com.au a boutique Media Buying and Production Company located in Crows Nest, Sydney has just signed with the Citadel Broadcasting Corporation www.citadelbroadcasting.com owners of 260 plus radio stations across the United States of America. The exclusive deal will see Hype supplying cell phone (mobile) content such as Ringtones, Games Wallpapers etc which will be promoted to the estimated 20 million listeners that Citadel command each week.

Citadel Broadcasting Corporation recently announced a deal to buy the bulk of Walt Disney Co's radio assets in a 2.7 billion USD cash-and-stock transaction, the Wall Street Journal reported. The combination will create the industry's third-biggest radio group in the United States. http://www.forbes.com/markets/feeds/afx/2006/02/05/afx2501489.html

The Disney deal will see an additional 13 million weekly listeners in all capital cities. Plus, a further 6 million registered Internet users will have access to any and all cell phone content that Hype makes available. Beginning in September 2006, Hype will access 30 million plus listeners and over 7 million registered Internet users with our exclusive Citadel deal.

Hype Marketing has been negotiating with Citadel for over 12 months to secure this opportunity and with partners Media West (Media Company located in Santa Barbara, Ca) and Quios (Aggregation Company located in San Francisco, Ca) are now in the position to become a major player in the US cell phone market. This will put our group on the map says Paul Stevens Hype’s owner. Hype has been doing business in the US for several years with our Media buying operations and now we are expanding our mobile content provision expertise, says Paul.

Hype has also been a player in the mobile content business in Australia for over 4 years delivering to thousands of consumers nationally. We pioneered many services (with our strategic partners Information Dialing Services www.idscomms.com.au) in Australia just as the world was waking up to the possibility of having a different “Ringtone” or “Horoscopes” services delivered to their mobile phone. Hype’s unique positioning allowed us to be a one stop shop with Media Buying, Marketing, TV, Radio and Print Production and content delivery all under the one roof, says Paul.

Several years ago we started looking at opportunities in the US market and with our strategic partners in place (Media West, Information Dialling Services and Quios) we started investing our own capital to become a player. Hype was one of the first foreign companies to have deals in place with all major US Telco carriers allowing us to deliver our content to over 84% of the total US market now in excess of 210 million Cell Phones. It is anticipated that the “Ringtone” revenues this year alone will be in the vicinity of over 1 billion USD. Analysts say that by 2008 the “Ringtone” revenues could blow out to over 6 billion USD. So you can see we are playing with some very large numbers says Paul.

Hype has many other projects currently under way in the US market with everything from a totally interactive (via the mobile phone) 24 hour TV Network reaching 30 million homes via Cable and Satellite see www.textontv.com (Hype has already started the fund raising process with 10 million USD already raised. A further 20 million USD is still to be raised). Hype also has a unique facility called Bar Chat www.barchat.com.au Bar Chat is a service that allows the consumer to send an SMS message to any designated TV within Bars, Pubs, Nightclubs or any venue to conduct an open anonymous conversation with other consumers. Bar Chat is rolling out in Australia, US and the UK.

With our Citadel deal now in cement we will be taken seriously by the investment community when we start seeking funds for our other ventures says Paul. Up until today Hype Marketing has financed all of its own ventures utilizing both the business revenues and personal investment. We have a lot of exciting opportunities ahead of us and nothing would give me greater pleasure than to take some fellow Aussies along for the ride with our other ventures says Paul who has never been afraid of putting his own money were his mouth is. As any good entrepreneur should do, don’t ask for other people’s money unless you are prepared to invest your own first says Paul.

But it’s not all about money. I have found that you can only go so far unless you have the right people behind you. Hype Marketing is a very unique company with its people having been together for over ten years. We are more of a family than a business. We all know each other extremely well and we all share the same dream, which makes life interesting to say the least. Not only within our own group but also our external strategic partners such as Media West (www.mediawestmarketing.com) who have worked tirelessly to help us make this deal a reality. It really helps when you work with professionals who not only have the most amazing network of contacts but also understand where you want to go. Quios (www.quios.com), the San Francisco aggregator, will also be playing a major role in the Citadel deal as they are a market leader in the whole mobile content industry and again we are very fortunate to have professionals working closely with us says Paul.

Watch this space for more exciting developments from the small company that knows it can if you believe!
